How much does a solar system cost in 2026?
For a typical single-family home, $15,000–$25,000 before incentives. With lease/PPA, $0 down. Price depends on system size, your state, and whether you add a battery.

Does the federal solar tax credit still exist?
The 25D credit (purchased systems) expired Dec 31 2025. The 48E credit is still active through 2027 for lease/PPA, keeping "$0 down" intact. State-level incentives are also still in force.

How long does installation take?
Physical install: 1–2 days. Full process (signing, design, permits, install, inspection, turn-on): 6–12 weeks depending on the municipality.

Do panels work on cloudy days or in winter?
Yes. Cloudy days produce 20–40% capacity. Winter produces less due to sun angle but cold weather actually improves cell efficiency. Systems are designed for annual production.

Do I need a battery?
Depends. If you have outages (TX), live in CA with NEM 3.0, or want independence, yes. If your area has stable rates and good net metering, you can start without one.

What happens when I sell my home?
If you bought the system, it raises home value (4–18% per NREL). If you have lease/PPA, it transfers to the new owner with a simple admin process.
